TGS/Econo-Rail, formerly Econo-Rail Corporation, began in 1978 in Port Arthur, Texas by offering railroad services. The new company offered in-plant rail maintenance. Then, as the company grew, rail construction was added. As the company's reputation for safety, reliability and quality grew, opportunities also grew. Rail switching and railcar storage services became part of the company package of railroad services. Completing the range of services were locomotive and railcar leasing, repair and overhaul.

As the company developed a regional and national reputation for dependability and efficiency, the company began providing bulk material services, from deepwater terminating and barge services to contract operation of bulk terminal facilities.

As the company matured into a national and international provider of railroad and bulk material logistical services, it became clear that the name Econo-Rail Corporation no longer described the broad capabilities of the company. Econo-Rail Corporation became Trans Global Solutions, Inc., and the full-service rail division became TGS/Econo-Rail. TGS/Econo-Rail, operating as a division of Trans-Global Solutions, Inc., is now a fully integrated rail service organization.
